Resumen
This study addresses the control mechanisms and higher education regulations as factors that condition the efficiency of the management of Argentine state universities. Through the Agency Theory proposal, different dimensions and their impact are explored. The normative context provided by the Argentine Higher Education Law No. 24,156 provides the reference framework for the analysis. The aim is to analyze to what extent they impact the management and functioning of the universities, the internal and external control systems and the current regulatory framework. The research is exploratory and quantitative, and the data used for the analysis consists of the opinions/perceptions of academic experts who are members of the different faculty that make up the university government, with special consideration for the importance given to co-government in Argentina. The qualitative characteristics outlined by the experts consulted constitute the data for the qualitative results. Data collected through surveys were analyzed using multiple techniques including descriptive and inferential statistics. The results allow us to identify a favorable opinion about the regulations and the perception of a positive effect on the management of Argentine universities. These results shed light on the perceptions of experts regarding the current regulations, thus allowing the expansion of knowledge based on the subject in order to visualize possible modifications to be implemented.
