Abstract
The article aims to review the meanings around democracy present in a set of party documents generated by the Interior Directorate (DI) of the Socialist Party of Chile and by its General Secretary Carlos Altamirano during the period between 1974 and 1979. Elaborate from the perspective of discourse analysis, the hypothesis of this article is that, in these documents, it is possible to see a progressive and shared modification in the sense of the democracy significant, as there are still no indications of the ideological differences that, years later, will distinguish the sector of socialist renewal from the rest of the Chilean socialist spectrum.
